We as pure divine nature will each have our own personal relationship to Yoga, and to Life. Consequently, we should listen to what feels right for our particular Breath in body experience. This philosophy is the backbone of TFYY’s approach, and Elias’ view on Teaching. Elias encourages you as Teacher, to Teach yoga passionately with a strong emphasis on staying connected using the vehicle of your Breath.  Maintaining presence of moment, with focus on proper alignment creates the opportunity to live fully in your body. Feeling present and alive while you work as a Teacher, and practice your yoga is a great recipe for a vital full-feeling Life.

Meet the founding father of True For You Yoga

About the Founder

Elias Gaitan is a passionate and devoted ‘Breath Focused’ yoga/meditation/fitness practitioner, a yoga/meditation/fitness teacher and trainer. He has committed his life to the pursuit of connection, health and well being. He has been practicing yoga/meditation/fitness for over 45 years and has studied and trained with a variety of teachers internationally. He has multiple yoga/meditation/fitness certifications and is a registered E-RYT 500, and YACEP (continued education) trainer with Yoga Alliance.

Elias believes ‘breath focused’ yoga/meditation/fitness is for everyone and his teaching style reflects this. His teaching method accommodates new and experienced yoga/meditation/fitness students, as well as those with injuries or body and mind limitations. Elias’ natural ease and calm creates a safe and empowered learning environment and this inspires students and teachers alike.

Elias trains and certifies new yoga/meditation/fitness teachers and also leads continued education yoga/meditation/fitness teacher trainings.  When he is not training others internationally, he teaches at studios locally in Northern California. Elias also teaches yoga/meditation/fitness workshops, hosts yoga/meditation/fitness retreats, mentors yoga/meditation/fitness teachers and is a yoga/meditation/fitness studio design consultant. He is a Lululemon Ambassador and is a trained Re-evaluation Counselor..

When did the path of Yoga begin for Elias?

As a lifelong competitive endurance athlete, avid surfer, and a daily fitness advocate to promote a strong body and calm mind, Elias awoke to Hatha yoga in the early 90’s. This 'awakening' was a result of a lifetime of disconnected heavy use of his body that was driven daily by his misdirected ‘determined’ mind, that until then, had been used to ignore any discomfort and pain he experienced. At this point in his life he found that ‘intense’ physical exercise was the main antidote to his over active mind. But then in the end realizing it had only left him more stressed and often excessively fatigued. His thoughts were; “With a now depleted and exhausted body, how do I achieve my familiar body connection to life, me functioning daily, as nature? And now, feeling overly strained and stressed, how will I experience the serenity of mind that my daily body fitness practices bring?” Finally after a number of experimental years, by divine accident, he was graced with the perfect balanced Yoga/Meditation/Fitness formula. This was his doorway to a pain-free body and a peaceful opened mind. This Yoga/Meditation/fitness formula reconnected his ‘breath’ to his body. It offered deep healing benefits to his body and mind that had been locked in a state of disconnection and stress. Elias then experienced a palpable sense of Body/Mind liberation and connection from his ‘breath focused’ Yoga/Meditation/Fitness system that he did not find in his sitting meditation or any other of his fitness conditioning practices alone. His ‘breath focused’ Yoga/Meditation/fitness system became his physical fitness, his meditation, and his presence practice; as a result balancing his mind and rejuvenating his tired Body. The healing and balancing power of ‘breath focused’ Yoga, Meditation, and Fitness eventually led Elias to his first yoga teacher training in 2003; and the creation of his True for You Yoga, Yoga/Meditation/Fitness System(s) and training courses.

Since then, Elias has eagerly accrued numerous certifications and has had the good fortune and blessing to train with, and/or study the works of these powerhouse Yoga Teachers and Yoga Masters; 'The Father of modern Yoga' - Sri T Krishnamacharya, and his brilliant son Sri TKV Desikachar, Yoga Creatrix - Anna Forest, Sri Vanda Scaravelli, Sri Mark Whitwell, Baron Baptiste, Sri Bishnu Ghosh, Sri Buddha Bose, The Choudhury's (Rajashree & Bikram), Sri BKS Iyengar, Esak Garcia, and Brian Cambell to name only a few.

Our core values and belief system

Breath by Breath

Over many years of observation of physical conditioning and experience, including my life’s crises, I have realized that the vehicle of the body is nature itself; and a pathway to our divinity.  Years of physical expression including; praying, meditating, running, dancing, swimming, weight lifting, wrestling, cycling, cross-fit, surfing, Yogasana, pranayama, rock climbing, hiking, and much, much more, have all lead me to the conclusion that our Breath-Body relationship is our elemental connection to nature and the divine.  I have been studying the Breath and it's effect on the body and Life from my youth. As an athlete, as early as 12, I remember a fascination with what influenced the body’s function and performance; food, sleep, Breath, and state of the mind. In fact, through thousands of personal experiential hours, it became unquestionably 'True' to me that our Breath in body relationship is Nature, and is a potential gateway to our personal divine connection and expression.  Simply, the more focus we have on our breath-by-breath body experience the more powerful, efficient, and graceful the body can become; and the more still, useful, and connected to each moment of Life our mind will BE.

One life changing direct result of a continual breath-by-breath ‘presence practice' is a more true observation of the 'Selfless/Self’. Experiencing life as it actually is, Breath-by-Breath, in the moment. Free of the distraction/distortion of the Egoic-Self agenda…

…and the illusion of time.
